“Citizenship Issue Faced by the Children of Marriage Migrants in Taiwan”

Abstract

This presentation describes how children of marriage migrants from Southeast Asian countries and mainland China suffer from the deficiency in the current citizenship system in Taiwan. Taiwan accepted marriage migrants to maintain their traditional social norm; however, marriage migrants cannot be substitutes for “traditional Taiwanese women.” A social system that could incorporate their diversity should be developed. This presentation especially analyzes the discussion about the multiple citizenship of marriage migrants and their children.
